TPS (throttle position sensor) is a variable resistor attached to the throttle plate shaft on either a TBI or the TB on an MPI engine. It notifies the throttle position back to the ECU and is operated as one of the inputs to define how much fuel to inject. The sensor can obtain noise or have open spots.
