Taylor Made Products’ Sur-Moor taper buoys are constructed from the same hard-skin polyethylene shell of their T3C buoy counterparts while offering higher mooring visibility. Both styles of buoys are available at Boatersland Discount Marine Supplies. The Sur-Moor taper shape design places more floatation area at the waterline creating a higher visibility mooring. These taper buoys are close cell foam filled to positively displace water. These shells have a sandblasted finish that allows the buoy to be easily painted for identifying. These buoys are available in the tube-through-the-center design with blue reflective striping.
The taper buoys are available in three sizes: 18 inch diameter buoy with a tube diameter of 2 ½ inches; 24 inch diameter buoy with a tube diameter of 2 ½ inches; and the 30 inch diameter buoy with a tube diameter of three inches. The buoys sold at Boatersland Marine do not include hardware, but Boatersland sells all of the hardware needed for these buoys separately. As with the T3C buoys, the Taylor Made Sur-Moor Taper Buoys are a permanent mooring system – when properly designed – should securely position a boat so that it can be left unattended, with little attention, for long periods of time. These mooring systems usually consist of a mooring buoy to float the chain, a mooring anchor and a length chain that runs between the anchor and the mooring buoy.
One of the added benefits of using the buoy mooring system is that it is a less expensive option than docking. Buoys are also ideal when tides rise and fall significantly. Boat using buoys for docking are less likely to drift and end up running aground, hitting another object or drifting into an unsafe area. Also, mooring systems do not cause damage to the ground like anchors can. Boatersland Marine sells the hardware separately for these taper buoys as hardware is not included when purchasing the buoys.
